Sarasota, FL - A Sarasota landmark that has operated for more than 70 years has been recognized as one of the best dive bars in the country, according to a recent USA TODAY feature highlighting notable drinking establishments across the United States.
Bahi Hut, located on North Tamiami Trail in Sarasota, was the only Florida location included in USA TODAY’s list of standout dive bars.
The bar opened in 1954 and is widely known for its long history, tiki-themed atmosphere and strong mai tai cocktails.
It is frequently cited as the oldest tiki bar in Florida and one of the longest continuously operating tiki establishments in the country.
The feature notes that the bar has been a gathering place for both local residents and visitors since the mid-20th century.
USA TODAY’s nationwide roundup spotlighted a variety of long-running bars, including neighborhood pubs, music-driven lounges and cash-only locations that have maintained their identities for decades.
The dive bars selected for the list range from historic Irish pubs and chili-famous taverns to iconic music stages where major artists once performed.
Each location was profiled by journalists across the USA TODAY Network.
In its description of Bahi Hut, the publication highlighted the bar’s dimly lit interior, retro styling and continued focus on traditional tiki décor.
The article also noted the addition of an outdoor area featuring a thatched roof and wooden tiki figure, which expanded the bar’s footprint while preserving its original character.
Bahi Hut’s appearance on the list reinforces its long-standing reputation as one of Sarasota’s most recognizable historic bars.
