Erin is forecast to become a hurricane today, a major hurricane by this weekend. The National Hurricane Center shows the storm is about 560 miles east of the Leeward Islands, and it is moving WNW near 17 mph.
The storm in the 5 o'clock advisory is displaying maximum sustained winds have increased to 70 mph. There is now a Tropical Storm Watch underway for Anguilla, Barbuda, St. Martin and St. Barthelemy and St. Maarten. Forecasters have yet to determine where the storm will make landfall and what, if any, impact will be felt across the U.S. However, there will be a higher risk of rip currents along the east coast regardless.
