"Rail Safety Week" is underway and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says a pedestrian or driver is hit by a train once every three hours in the U.S.

Brightline is out with a list of safety tips:

You should always stop your car when crossing gates are down and/or the lights are flashing.

It can take more than a mile for a train to stop, which is about a length of 18 football fields.

Also, it's illegal to trespass or take selfies on the tracks. Violators may face fines.

Brightline resumes its operations in November after shutting down at the start of the pandemic.
