Lady Lake, FL - A Florida man faces petit theft charges after allegedly stealing $60 worth of beer and Mountain Dew from a Walmart and was caught with the stolen items in his truck during a traffic stop.
Authorities say 50-year-old Thomas Watts was arrested on Saturday evening after allegedly shoplifting from a Walmart on Wedgewood Lane in Lady Lake.
According to a Sumter County Sheriff's Office affidavit, a loss prevention officer observed Watts placing a case of Heineken, a case of Corona, and a 20-ounce bottle of Mountain Dew into his shopping cart.
The affidavit alleges Watts exited the store without paying after checking the area around the exit for employees.
Watts reportedly loaded the beverages into a white truck in the parking lot and departed.
A sheriff's deputy stopped Watts' truck on Highway 466 and located the stolen items in the back seat.
The total value of the merchandise was nearly $60.
He was arrested and booked at the Sumter County Detention Center.
Records show Watts remains in jail on a $500 bond.
