Masks Will Remain Mandatory In Classrooms In This Florida School District

The Martin County School District is keeping masks mandatory in class for the remainder of this school year, which wraps up later this month.

The decision was made during an emergency meeting on Wednesday night, where the school board also voted to make masks optional for students and staff during the summer months.

While no official decision was made for the 2021/22 school year, the Superintendent said that "barring an unusually high spike in coronavirus cases or a change in pandemic circumstances," the school district plans to follow the recommendation of Florida Education Commissioner Richard Corcoran to make masks optional.

They will be optional during outdoor graduation ceremonies that get underway next week.
