Amazon Gets Rejected By Tiny Palm Beach County Community

Online retail giant Amazon has been snubbed by a tiny Palm Beach County community.

The Village of Golf has turned down Amazon's proposal for a distribution facility on 17 acres of land near Boynton Beach. The village council agreed with its staff's conclusion that the development was not in keeping with the quality of life for Golf, with a population of about 300.

The project was expected to generate over $400,000 in annual taxes, but those against it said they'd prefer it be in an industrial park, rather than a residential area.

Amazon's last-mile distribution facilities serve as the final stop before direct-delivery to customers and are much smaller than the often 1 million square foot fulfillment centers, like the ones slated for nearby Boca Raton and Jupiter.
