Uber Sued By Florida Family After Death Of Woman In Wrong-Way Crash

The parents of a Lantana woman killed in a wrong-way crash are suing Uber.

24-year old Amber Reif was a passenger in her boyfriend's car, which was going north on the southbound exit ramp of I-95 to Palmetto Park Road as it collided with a vehicle driven by 57-year old Brenda Walker, who was driving for Uber that night in December.

While Christopher Michael Alfeo was drunk and Walker's vehicle was going the right way, tests showed she was under the influence of marijuana. Walker, Alfeo and Reif were all killed.

An attorney for Reif's family says that by filing a lawsuit against Uber Technologies and Walker's estate, he can begin piecing together how the crash occurred and who should be held responsible.

Uber isn't commenting on the lawsuit, but says it does extensive background checks on its drivers both before they are hired and while they are working.

Drivers who are convicted of violent crimes and driving offenses, ranging from speeding to DUI, are disqualified.
